Lyman Frank Baum was born in 1856 and died in 1919. He was the avid writer of many children's books, including The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz was a extended allegory to the populist
movement, women’s suffrage, and other political groups in that time. This book was very successful, predicting many technological advances to come, including the television, the laptop computer, and the wireless telephone. Baum held
many occupations being an actor, poultry breeder, author, journalist, etc. He wrote a total of 55 novels during his lifetime.
